The railway line and canal are less than 50 metres apart at this point. The pub also used to be between 2 steelworks, but 'Unbrako' has closed and only Kiveton Park Wire Works survives. If you look at the Chesterfield Canal restoration page you'll see the canal bridge that lies a few metres to the right of the signal box. The 100 year old beer bottle was possibly bought in the Old Station pub, and chucked into the canal from that bridge.
