Harthill ponds are as series of 3 reservoirs and are today a popular coarse fishing and sailing site. They were formed in the 1760s by the damming of the Derbyshire Dyke and they acted as a water reserve for the Chesterfield Canal (see the canal pages). The waters were later used for the boilers of Kiveton Pit.
