From its opening in 1909 until the 1960's when it was absorbed into Aston Comprehensive (originally called Aston Woodhouse Comprehensive), its intake covered Aston Parish, Ulley, Wales, Kiveton, Dinnington, Treeton, Brinsworth and Catcliffe. In later years, approximately half its intake came from Sheffield City.
