Fracking rig nr Chesterfield
« on: June 24, 2012, 08:58:06 PM »
I've heard of the fracking tests that were done for gas near to Blackpool last year. They were carried out by a company called Cuadrilla and hit the headlines when they caused micro micro earth tremors (enough to rattle a few cups). I was surprised to learn that some of their rigs are refurbished at Danesmoor near Chesterfield.

Now the anti fracking group 'Frack Off' have started protesting at the place, and some of them have chained themselves to the sites gate.

Fracking for natural gas has been a big success in the US and has led to a falling of gas prices. And it's been used in the UK before and in the North Sea gas fields.

Cuadrilla's take on fracking is at http://www.cuadrillaresources.com/what-we-do/hydraulic-fracturing/

Frack Off's is at http://frack-off.org.uk/
