coal opencast clay cross
« on: May 02, 2012, 02:04:21 PM »
Apparently some 175,000 tonnes of coal (about £8.5m if it goes for about £50 a tonne) is to be mined from near the A61 near to Clay Cross in North Derbyshire.

I'm not much of a fan of opencast, but sadly due to the fact that the UK is broke and we are a net importer of coal (use about 60m tonnes a year, mine less than 30m tonnes) then we may have to do more open casting like this.

The company that's doing it (Provectus) has this website: http://www.hilltop-project.com/

And the inevitable local protest website is the very similarly named: http://hilltopproject.com/!
