Coal mining in Nottinghamshire in 1893
« on: July 30, 2011, 01:54:38 PM »
Hello,

Where can I find a decent account of the lock-out of the Nottinghamshire coal mines in 1893?

I want to know what caused it, how many were affected and how a resolution was reached.

Anyone point me in the right direction?

Many thanks

Dave

Sorry if I'm teaching granny to suck eggs but have you tried google books? I entered 1893 lockout notts and got:

http://books.google.co.uk/books?id=QjrKFQEvBBsC&pg=PA77&dq=1893+lock-out+notts&hl=en&ei=UZ-WToHkJ4bl4QTCwOGpBA&sa=X&oi=book_result&ct=result&resnum=3&ved=0CD0Q6AEwAg#v=onepage&q=1893%20lock-out%20notts&f=false

Google scholar gave me:
http://scholar.google.co.uk/scholar?hl=en&as_sdt=0,5&q=1893+lockout+notts

I used it a lot when I did my science degree. Your local library should be able to get the books/papers found.
